Rapper Riky Rick has revealed that he'll be dropping new music this summer. And no, it won't be another hip-hop song. This time, it will purely be kwaito.

Taking to Twitter recently, the Sidlukotini hitmaker explained that his new music will be a kwaito offering, following the death of Mandoza, who was labelled a 'kwaito legend'.

While, over the years, interest in kwaito music has taken a dive, the number of local hip-hop acts have widened recently with rappers, including Cassper Nyovest and K.O, now infusing their sound with 1990s kwaito samples.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE earlier this year, Riky Rick  - who is widely known for having a sound that’s heavily influenced by kwaito - asserted that kwaito and hip-hop have become one genre in the country at the moment.

"What’s going on now is that kwaito and hip-hop have become the same thing‚ which means now it’s hip-hop and house‚ and other genres," he said.

"The house cats [sic] are always the ones that rock the clubs and bring the excitement. While the hip-hop cats [sic] are the ones that bring in the swag‚ the lingo‚ the glitz and glam – that’s what we bring."
