Today marks nine years since legendary musician Lucky Dube tragically died after being shot during an alleged hijacking.

In honour of the music icon Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa has urged the nation to celebrate his contribution to music on Tuesday.

Taking to social media Mthethwa lead the pack by paying tribute to Dube.

"Today we pay tribute to Raggae music icon Lucky Dube who died tragically on this day in 2007. His music touched millions across the globe," he said.

Mthethwa went on to applaud the impact Dube's music had during the Apartheid era.

Fans of the fallen icon have also inundated social media with tribute messages.
