Fans left devastated as Trevor Noah pulls out of the 2016 MTV MAMAs

Trevor Noah fans have been left devastated by news that the world-renowned comedian will no longer be gracing South African shores to host the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards as promised.

Trevor took to his Twitter account on Friday morning to announce that he will no longer be making an appearance due to a severe infection. In a statement Trevor explained that he had been fighting an upper respiratory and ear infection for the whole week and medication did not help. 

  • Bonang to replace Trevor Noah as MAMAs hostMTV announced on Friday morning that Bonang Matheba would be hosting the MAMAs after Trevor Noah had to cancel his appearance. 

"Due to the infection and strain on my vocal chords the doctor has ordered me to rest. I desperately wish I could dismiss the doctor but the added risk of flying means the decision would be highly irresponsible and may cause further damage."

Shortly after the news emerged, a slew of devastated fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment, explaining that half the reason they were looking forward to the awards show was because of Trevor.

MTV has since announced that Bonang Matheba will be taking over the helm for the awards show which takes place tomorrow at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg.


The TV personality confirmed the news, taking to her Twitter account to retweet messages of support.
