Controversial Date My Family bachelor Mdu Nyoni, who became an overnight internet sensation, is set to star in a music video alongside award-winning musician Dr Malinga.

Mdu caused a social media storm earlier this month when he was mocked for his "fake" accent and lifestyle, after he appeared on Mzansi Magic's popular TV reality show, Date My Family.

Mdu's efforts to find love through the show sparked widespread debate as social media users criticised his "British accent" and punched holes in his "life story".

Award-winning dance musician Dr Malinga was watching Mdu top the trends list and decided to rope the star in for an upcoming music video set for release next month.

"It is not only because he was trending. It was because so many people saw him as a charmer boy. My latest single Uyalivuselela is a love song and I thought he fitted the profile of a lover boy,'" Dr Malinga told TshisaLIVE.

Dr Malinga started shooting the music video this week at the Menlyn Boutique Hotel in Pretoria, and uploaded a behind the scenes video from the shoot on his Instagram.

Malinga told TshisaLIVE that Mdu will play be a key character in the music video as a young man romancing his girlfriend.

Malinga said he had enjoyed working with Mdu on the music video and was impressed by how comfortable the Date My Family star was. "He was really excited to be on the video and was really easy to work with. I think everyone had fun on set with him," Malinga said.

Despite the storm that erupted around him after the Date My Family episode earlier this month, Mdu remained unfazed by the criticism.
