Rapper Maggz has become the latest high-profile artist to leave K.O's Cashtime Life, with insiders confirming to TshisaLIVE there was a breakdown in his relationship with the record label.

Maggz's departure follows that of Nomuzi Mabena and Kid X last year.

A source close to the situation told TshisaLIVE that Maggz had grown frustrated with Cashtime and that his relationship with the label had "run its course".

"Maggz and Cashtime were just looking for different things. He still has a lot of respect for the guys but he just felt like it was time to move on," a source said.

  • SABC moves to win back Afrikaans audiences The SABC has announced a series of scheduling changes to its SABC 2 TV channel in an attempt to win back Afrikaans viewers and cement it as an "all inclusive family channel".

It's understood that one of the issues between the two parties centred around the delays in releasing the Vaye hitmaker's debut album.

Maggz told TshisaLIVE on Thursday that he would be releasing a statement soon addressing his future with the label.

Meanwhile, Cashtime said they had yet to meet with Maggz to discuss his future and would not comment on him leaving.

They have, however, reassured fans that the record label is not in danger of closing, despite losing three artists in less than a year.

"We are not concerned about the future of Cashtime Life. We are simply changing our business model to adapt to a very difficult environment," the company's co-founder Thabiso Khati told TshisaLIVE.

Thabiso said that the label is not planning on signing any new artists and would instead focus on the entertainment aspect of the business.

He shut down suggestions that artists at the label, including Maggz, had their records delayed by Cashtime.

"We believed that everyone at the label has had an equal opportunity to show their talent. No artist is bigger than another in Cashtime and we have done all we can to make sure that they are looked after and given every opportunity to showcase their talent and release their music," Thabiso said.
