Amor Vittone and her children are in a "state of shock" and battling to come to terms with the death of rugby hero Joost van der Westhuizen.

Once the darlings of the South African public, Amor and Joost's bumpy relationship later made headlines for all of the wrong reasons. But over the past few years, the couple had made peace and spent holidays and special occasions together.

When Joost was admitted to hospital on Saturday in a critical condition, Amor was criticised for using it as a "pr opportunity."

She hit back at the claims and said that she would come out of all of the negativity stronger.

The Afrikaans singer and TV presenter has said that her first priority is her children.

  • 5FM's DJ Fix is pregnantShe got hitched in January and now 5FM's DJ Fix has confirmed that she and her husband are expecting their first child together.

"The children and I are in a complete state of shock. We know that for Joost's sake, you will give them the space that they need - and we thank you for that! My first priority is to our children right now, and I thank you for understanding, as I try and steer them and navigate through this loss, which will reverberate through all of our lives for a long time to come. "

She went on to add that over the years they had found peace.

  • 'You are and always will be my first love. We love you' - Amor Vittone bids farewell to Joost In the wake of former rugby legend Joost van der Westhuizen's death, his estranged wife and singer Amor Vittone has penned a touching tribute to him.

"Personally - Joost gave me the greatest gift of my life - because he was the father of my children. Even though we were separated, he was in our life on a daily basis right to the end and we shared extraordinary memories. I can't say much more, except that I know, the public and press support, meant a great deal to him. Thank you all for the messages of condolences. I've been in tears reading them.....thank you."

Joost died at his home on Monday after a six year battle with MND.
