Ever since news of veteran actor Joe Mafela's death emerged, the nation has been in a state of mourning and have remembered the decades of laughter he brought to the country.

While Joe had a successful acting, comedy and singing career - he was perhaps most loved for breathing life into the Chicken Licken adverts.

  • 'He was a pioneer, a mentor, and a friend' - Joe Mafela's friends and colleagues pay tribute to himIn the wake of veteran actor Joe Mafela's death on Saturday night, his friends have remembered the massive contribution he made to the acting fraternity and the "humble" man who made the nation laugh.

As the face of the popular chicken franchise, Joe coined the catchy phrase, "it's good, good, good, it's good it's nice!".

The ads had hilarious concepts which Joe brought to life. In case, you were too young to remember or need a reminder, watch them below:

There was the one ad where Joe had a house party, but Mam'fundisi (Pastor's wife) threatened to shut them down...

Then there was the R2.95 Joe's Licken pie...

Finally, there was that 10c meal with three chicken pieces and the Licken loaf...

While Joe's death has been described as a huge loss for the nation, his legacy certainly lives on.

Joe was declared dead by paramedics after being involved in a car accident on the M1 North in Johannesburg on Saturday night.
