DJ Sbu planning to retire in three years to become 'a full-time dad'

Radio host and businessman DJ Sbu is throwing all his energy into work so that he can retire at 40 and spend time with his daughter.

Sbu runs a number of companies, including an education foundation and his own range of energy drinks, and is working hard to ensure that they will all be able to "run themselves" when he decides to retire in three years’ time.

"I have always planned to retire at 40. I started many of my companies several years ago with the goal of them being able to run themselves by the time I reach that milestone. I am working like a slave now to make sure that when I get to that point, I don't have to," he told TshisaLIVE.

He said that he was planning to dilute many of the shares in his companies and then live off the profits and share dividends.

He added that he will then focus on being a full-time dad.

"I want to be able to travel the world and take my daughter along with me. She is three-years-old now and will be seven (years-old) by the time I retire. I think that is a great age to be able to take her along to guest lectures and places all around the world. I also want to be able to do the little things like take her to school each morning and be there when she comes home. Everything I do now is for her," Sbu said.

Sbu did not reveal how much he planned to have in his retirement fund when he finally calls it quits, but said that he was on course to not have to return to work again.

"My energy drink business MoFaya is currently a multi-million-rand company and growing at an alarming rate. I want to be able to be completely hands off and still survive, and I am on course to do that. For so many years I have been juggling music, radio and business and I am now ready to stop being a slave to these things and do whatever I want at my own pace," he added.
