After months of rumours about an impending divorce, the split between model Minki van der Westhuizen and businessman Constant Visser was confirmed yesterday.

The 25-year-old Pasella presenter and the 39-year-old Visser were married two years ago in a "fairy tale" wedding in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.

The model's spokesman, Andrew Farr, said yesterday: "I can confirm that they are getting divorced, but I can't say anything more at this stage. It is very amicable and they are still friends."

After a whirlwind courtship of only four months, Visser popped the question while on holiday with Van der Westhuizen in Italy in January 2007.

Big Brother 1 winner Ferdinand Rabie, whose former wife, Colene, is Visser's sister, said he knew what the couple were going through.

"See how all her previous relationships went - just sit with a calculator," he said.

The Sports Illustrated swimwear model famously dated Proteas captain Graeme Smith in an on-again, off-again relationship before pairing with singer Pieter Smith for two months. After that she took up with Visser, whom she described as an "old friend".

The Library, the restaurant in Stellenbosch that the couple started together, closed its doors earlier this year.

On her website, Van der Westhuizen had gushed: "Probably in about two years, and if all goes well, we'd like to have three children."

If Visser misses the sound of his soon-to-be-former wife's voice, he can always buy the Garmin GPS software released this week, which features her voice giving drivers directions.

This is sad too, that is how 'fairytales' usually end, nothing seems to last forever anymore.

I think she is too young, beautiful and successful and has too may things going for her to settle down - with a 14 years older man. They are simply in different places in their lives. Wonder what her start sign is...

It comes with this whole "celeb" thing. There are certain magazines, one in particular, which specialise in pages and pages of coverage of these so-called celeb weddings, including the names of the sponsors who actually helped out with providing all the fake pomp and pageantry around these weddings.
I would like someone to actually do a bit of statistical analysis on how many of these featured weddings, where the bride gushes that "this is the man I want to spend the rest of my life with" and the groom responds with utterances like "this is the woman of my dreams" end up in divorce within 5 years.
These people only seem to care about getting themselves in the spotlight and actually don't realise that marriage is really hard work and both partners need to be totally committed - in good times and bad.
As an ordinary person I( have been married for 33 years and though we have had huge ups and downs we still managed to stay together.
so pardon me for looking on this whole celeb wedding thing as just an expensive waste of time and money.
The dress and decor are more important than the husband!!!!!!!important th

I agree - maybe if they paid for their own weddings like ordinary people, they would try a little harder!
