South African cricket captain Graeme Smith bowled over his Irish sweetheart, Morgan Deane, when they exchanged vows at an intimate ceremony in Cape Town.

Just before noon, Deane announced on the social network site Twitter: "Today I'm getting married to the man of my dreams."

The couple said "I do" at St Bernard's Catholic Church in Claremont in a ceremony that began just after 3pm.

Deane arrived at the church - which was decorated with arum lilies - in a black Bentley sporting a white ribbon.

She emerged wearing a white silk dress and towering white peep-toe pumps holding a bouquet of white roses.

Smith, who arrived in a white Range Rover, smiled broadly and gave onlookers the thumbs-up, standing next to teammate Mark Boucher.

Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis arrived at the church after the bride and scuttled in hastily.

Other guests included Proteas Paul Harris, AB de Villiers, Gary Kirsten and local celebrity Jeannie D.

Afterwards, the newlyweds were showered with rose petals and whisked away in the Bentley to join family and friends at a reception overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Guests lounged in a marquee at the reception held at the Suikerbossie restaurant above Hout Bay.

The Big Easy 2010, a red wine produced by golfer Ernie Els, was poured for guests under a ceiling swathed in white gauze and fairy lights. Tables draped in white were laid with porcelain plates, engraved silver cutlery and crystal glasses.

Smith, the country's test captain, proposed to Deane in April, shortly after South Africa crashed out of the Cricket World Cup in India.

He was roasted by fans for not returning home with the team to face the music about their poor performance.

Instead, he flew from India to Ireland to spend time with Deane, whose family live in Cork.

Deane once performed as a backing vocalist for the Irish pop band Jedward at the Eurovision song contest.

The brunette revealed a raunchy side a month after the engagement when she publicly lauded Smith's prowess between the sheets. "Sex is gooooood with @GraemeSmith49," she said on Twitter.

Smith, who previously dated model Minki van der Westhuizen, sent a tweet around 1pm yesterday saying: "Thanks for all your positive vibes!! Most exciting day of my life."

He spent the night before the wedding with his friend Doug Worth, whom he lambasted on Twitter for the "worst snoring I've ever experienced".

Friends at Deane's hen party two weeks ago, meanwhile, were served vanilla and chocolate cupcakes adorned with penises.

"They requested cupcakes with naughty messages and also some with pink-fondant edible penises," said Daniella Biess, co-owner of Charly's Bakery in Cape Town. "There was also one that read, 'Morgan Loves Graeme'."

The Irish Independent reported yesterday that Deane had previously said of her relationship with the cricketer: "I would probably have settled for a lesser love myself up until I met Graeme, because I had no idea that I could actually love someone as much as I do him. I feel blessed to have him in my life and I'm very excited to begin our future together."

Deane's family flew out from Ireland for the big day.

Smith's agent, Fiona de Souza, said the wedding was a private affair featuring "an intimate ceremony for family and close friends".

The Sunday Times was informed that Herschelle Gibbs would not attend the wedding because he planned to play golf. Relations between Gibbs and Smith soured after publication of Gibbs's autobiography, To The Point.
