Deschanel, who split from husband Ben Gibbard earlier this year after two years of marriage, was seen publicly kissing Linden in Los Angeles, confirming rumours of a romance between them.

The pair were first linked together in June after they appeared "inseparable, holding hands and hooking their arms together" at a ‘Magic Mike’ after-party.

A source added: "Jamie's a really nice guy. He's funny, and a little geeky ... he's into her!"

Deschanel announced her marriage to Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben had ended "mutually" and "amicably" in December and claimed there was no one was involved with the split.

The 32-year-old recently admitted she likes intelligent men who make her laugh. She said: "I think intelligence and humour are probably the most attractive traits in a guy."

However, she has also said she doesn't feel ready to date, saying: "Honestly, I'm just going through a divorce, so I don't really think [dating] is something I want to get into now. I don't have time to date. I literally don't have time."

Deschanel is known for her roles in TV series New Girl and movies 500 Days of Summer and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. She is also singer for a band called She & Him.

Screenwriter Linden is an upcoming artist, having written the script for film Dear John, as well as We Are Marshall, based on the 1970 plane crash that killed most of the Marshall University football team
