Daniel Radcliffe determined to forge career away from 'Potter'

Actor Daniel Radcliffe is determined to forge a career himself away from the 'Harry Potter' series and wants to keep working until he dies.

The Kill Your Darlings actor knows he has to work hard to be disassociated from Harry Potter - the role which made him famous and which he played in eight movies from the age of 11 - but is determined to have a long career and prove himself as an actor.

Discussing getting away from being typecast as the boy wizard, he said: "I've always said that it's a long process, and in a way it may be a lifelong one.

"It's about proving to people that I'm in this for the long haul, and that I wasn't just looking to get as famous as I could for as long as I could and ride that out. I love almost every aspect of this industry and I want to be in it, and if I could drop dead on a film set at 80, that's how I'd want to go."

The 23-year-old star also admitted he can't bring himself to watch many of his early turns in the Harry Potter series.

He told Out magazine: "I certainly wouldn't watch number three, I wouldn't watch the first two, I wouldn't watch four. I might watch five. I definitely wouldn't watch six."

However, despite his awkwardness at seeing himself on screen, Radcliffe is growing more comfortable with himself and less critical of his work.

Speaking about a talk he watched recently, he said: "The speaker said that part of growing up is aiming to succeed but being fulfilled by failing really well.

"That's what I feel this year has been all about for me. I'm looking at my work for the first time and not cringing. I'm going, 'Yes, this is closer to what I want it to be.' "

Radcliffe has acted in four films outside the Potter series and has two coming after Kill Your Darlings.
