Virgin chairman Sir Richard Branson will compete in the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour in Cape Town next month, it was reported on Monday.

Branson told the Cape Argus that the 109 kilometre tour had been on his "bucket list" for years.

"Life is a helluva lot more fun if you say yes rather than no... I am prepared to try anything once," he said.

The magnate would be headlining a team on March 10 that included his son-in-law, Virgin Group chief executive Josh Bayliss and Virgin Active SA staff members.

His only request so far is for a "comfortable" saddle.

Branson was aiming for a time of just over five hours.
