It’s been 10 years since comedian David Kibuuka made his television debut on satirical television programme Pure Monate Show in the skit 'The Dictator', and according to him he has amassed 'the weather man kind of fame' over the years with his regular slot as an international correspondent on the LNN with Loyiso Gola.

The 36 year-old Ugandan born comic has been living in South Africa for more than two decades after his family left the Idi Amin dictated country. “I’m basically South African, I’ve been living here since I was a 10 year-old” he says.

He has come a long way in his journey of becoming one of South Africa’s best comics. He won a nationwide comedy talent search competition, building his reputation as one of the continent’s best stand-up acts performing at shows such as Blacks Only, Heavyweight Comedy Jam and Lough Out Loud just to mention but a few.

“I always tell young guys coming up that they shouldn’t give up,” he says. He says the fame and recognition he is now receiving did not take him by surprise because “I always knew the power of TV.”

He is currently on his Witbank Comedy Tour which has seen him play Brazil, Zimbabwe, London and is also set for the USA and Rwanda. “It’s called the ‘Witbank Comedy Tour’ because that’s where the tour started.”

On Tuesday night he was part of the African Kings and Queens Comedy show at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park alongside African acts such as Malawi’s Daliso Chaponda and Zimbabwe’s  Carl Joshua Ncube with others local acts such as Kagiso Lediga and Conrad Koch with Chester Missing.
