Mom-to-be DJ Zinhle gives readers exclusive access into her personal life and pregnancy journey with her new blog. The businesswoman touches on her relationship, coping with being a first time mom and having had an emergency complication in her pregnancy.

She had to give up work due to a complication in her pregnancy

It might sound weird but I sat my amazing man down and explained to him when the best time to conceive would be. He laughed but agreed. I had it all planned. I even had a tight training program that would ensure that I kept my normal weight thus hiding the pregnancy until a specific time. The plan was clear, work wouldn’t be disrupted by the pregnancy. Twenty weeks into my pregnancy, a  simple visit to the doctor’s rooms changed everything. He picked up a complication which required me to be admitted to the hospital immediately. I had an operation the next day and everything changed.

She worries about being a good mom

Cutting down on work was never part of my plan but I think that this has been a great way for me to learn about juggling motherhood and a career. I realise that it will not be easy at all. I have a new found respect for all working moms. How do you do it? Is there a formula? Will I be able to balance the two? I am good at what do,  I know how to rock a crowd but will I be present enough to rock my baby to sleep and not miss the special moments?

AKA was supportive from the beginning but wanted to hear the news face to face

I couldn’t wait till he got back, so I took a picture of the stick and sent it to him. He, as many men would, responded with, “What does this mean?”. After announcing that our lives were going to change forever, with the simple words, “It means we are pregnant”, he lovingly asked me if I was scared. I responded, “Yes, but I am also happy, you?”.He responded, “I am scared too. I love you and I wouldn’t do this with anybody else but you. I still would have preferred if you told me face to face”.

She raided AKA's closet for some comfy clothes that would fit her

“Is that my shirt?” asked my boyfriend. “Well, it used to be”, I answered. I left him no choice but to share his clothes with me during my pregnancy. My reasoning was simple … my clothes don’t fit me and most of his does. I don’t always wear his clothes by choice and they don’t always offer the most stylish looks but I have managed to make some of his pieces work for me and they look great when paired with some of my other items.
