A birthday party for one of South Africa's well known rappers ended in tragedy after a reveller fell to his death.

Twenty-seven year old Lawrence Ledimo opted to slide down a staircase rail in a jest but tragically lost his balance, falling down seven storeys and dying instantly.

According to The Sowetan Wednesday's edition, Ledimo was one of many party goers who attended rapper Reason's birthday party at the Koolin In The City concept party. The newspaper reports that the incident happened at 8pm.

"Lawrence was coming from the bathrooms and in the name of fun and games decided he would slide down the staircase rail as opposed to walking down the stairs," said Banesa Tseki, one of the organisers of the event.

Reason has visited the family to pay his respects.

Pearl Thusi, a TV presenter who was hosting at the event said it was a shocking moment for everyone who was in attendance.

Speaking on Metro FM, Thusi said she went on stage to continue hosting when she was told by Reason that someone had died and the party had to be instantly shut down.
