The actress's two-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer last year but beat it when the disease went into remission.

Mdabe has two children, a son and a daughter who is in primary school.

The married mom has chronicled her experience after spending most of 2015 caring for her son during his battle with cancer. According to The Sowetan, he was cleared for the disease in October.

Mdabe said she learnt a lot from the ordeal and she would not take life for granted.

"If you were never in a situation, it is hard to relate to another person who is going through it. In the past, I always heard about breast cancer and other illnesses but [only] once it happens to you, it's a totally different thing. It taught me to not exclude myself from other people's situations because whatever they are going through at that moment is hectic. It made me more sympathetic as a person and to pay attention to people who are going through things and humble myself in life," she explained.

She added that she now appreciated the people in her life more.

"It gave me the understanding to give 150% when I do things, no more fear," Mdabe said.
