Battlefield 3 reveals multiplayer maps

Nine multiplayer maps are packed into Battlefield 3 as standard, but only one of them contains the series easter egg -- a secret sandcastle.

Operation Metro and Caspian Border will be the most familiar.

Metro was subject to a public multiplayer beta across PC, 360 and PC. Its simulacrum of Parisian life takes combatants through a scenic park, into the city's underground rail network, and on to the financial quarter.

Caspian Border was a PC-only test map with plenty of footage making it onto YouTube -- wide green hillsides, twisting gullies, and guard stations for soldiers, tanks, choppers, and jets to eviscerate.

A fictional conflict over Iranian oil takes players to one of the game's biggest maps, Operation Firestorm, while in Tehran Highway armored vehicles break suburban cover, spewing infantry for an inner-city assualt.

Attackers on Damavand Peak will need to make a 500 meter descent, commandeering vehicles as they go, while Seine Crossing sees a treacherous traversal of the French capital.

Grand Bazaar promises plenty of exposed angles and tight close-quarters combat that rewards coordinated team play, while a windswept Kharg Island and the industrial Noshar Canals add a dash of naval warfare to the classic Battlefield formula.

Electronic Arts' Battlefield 3 launches for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 launch on October 25 in North America, and from October 28 in European regions.

Rival publisher Activision responds with GoldenEye 007: Reloaded on 360 and PS3 from November 1 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 8.
