Game: Nat geo quiz! wild life
Criticising National Geographic about anything makes you feel a bit like a clubber of baby seals. But this effort to educate via a popular media tool has many flaws.
GAME: NAT GEO QUIZ! WILD LIFE
PUBLISHER: BLACKBEAN GAMES
The august society is brilliant at many things, but not video games.
Quiz! Wild Life (I'm not sure which irritates more, the exclamation mark or the refusal to make wildlife a single word) uses a format similar to that of Buzz! or Trivial Pursuit - with a single player mode or a challenge mode against up to three others.
There are three different ways of approaching it: Quiz, where you can set the length of the quiz and its difficulty; Quest, where answering seven of 10 questions correctly allows you to progress; and Stat Attax, which uses cards and requires two players.
There are also jigsaw and sliding puzzle sub-games against a timer, but these are disappointing as the biggest challenge is to master the movements required, not to complete the kiddy-grade puzzles.
THE GOOD
Beautifully filmed inserts, with the benefit of getting an educational toy for your child. Different difficulty settings allow the player to learn from previous steps.
THE BAD
Quiz! Wild Life becomes very repetitive. It works as a teaching tool but fails as a game.
