What director Kathryn Bigelow did for Jeremy Renner's career when her film 'The Hurt Locker' won the Oscar in 2009 could occur with Emmy winner Kyle Chandler ('Super 8'), who is to star in her upcoming film about the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

Chandler will play one of the CIA operatives whose intelligence gathering leads to locating bin Laden. He is joined by Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life, The Help), Joel Edgerton (Warrior), Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes) and Édgar Ramírez (Carlos).

Rumours have Golden Globe winner Idris Elba (Thor) and Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) possibly coming aboard, but some actors' names are being kept secret, according to Deadline Hollywood.

Bigelow teams up again with Oscar-winning screenwriter Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker) for the untitled international thriller. The project retells the story of the Navy SEAL Team 6 search for the al-Qaeda leader.

Chandler won the Emmy for the critically acclaimed television sports drama Friday Night Lights, which is coming to the big screen. He will be seen next in the espionage thriller Argo, directed by and costarring Ben Affleck (The Town), due to hit cinemas in September.

Also, Chandler will costar in the crime drama Broken City with Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter), Russell Crowe (Robin Hood) and Catherine Zeta-Jones (The Legend of Zorro), releasing in January 2013.

Production on the Bin Laden thriller is scheduled to begin in February for release in the US on December 19.
