'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' leads IIFA nominees

Zoya Akhtar's road movie ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ (You Only Live Once) is leading the nomination pack of the 13th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards with 14 nods, while Vidya Balan's ‘The Dirty Picture’ follows closely behind with 13.

The Times of India said Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has bagged nominations including best picture, best direction for Zoya Akhtar, best actor in a leading role for Hrithik Roshan. Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar have been nominated in best performance in a supporting role, male, while Kalki Koechlin has been nominated in best actress in supporting role, female. The coming-of-age story follows three childhood friends who set off to Spain on a bachelor trip.

The Dirty Picture has bagged nomination for best picture, said One India. Vidya Balan has been nominated for best actress, while Emraan Hashmi and Naseeruddin Shah for best performance in a supporting role of male. The movie has received other nominations like best story, best lyrics and best playback singer male for Kamaal Khan for 'Ishq sufiyana' and best song for a few songs of the film.

Along with Hrithik Roshan, Amitabh Bachchan (Aarakshan), Salman Khan (Bodyguard), Shahrukh Khan (Don 2), Ranbir Kapoor (Rockstar) and Ajay Devgn (Singham) have also been nominated for the best actor, while Priyanka Chopra (7 Khoon Maaf), Kareena Kapoor (Bodyguard), Mahie Gill (Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster) and Kangna Ranaut (Tanu Weds Manu) will compete with Vidya for the best actress.

After announcing the nominations for the IIFA Awards 2012, director Sabbas Joseph of the Wizcraft International Entertainment, told AINS, “We at IIFA take pride in announcing the nominees for which celebrate the best work done by the Indian Film Industry over the last year. We are thoroughly pleased with the nominees a result of the film industry’s secret ballot; and we hope the audience will make a worthy choice in deciding the winners of this year’s IIFA accolades.”

Actress Chitrangada Singh and television anchor and actor Ayushmann Khurana are co-hosting the awards weekend.

IBNLive reported that 36-year-old actress Singh will be co-hosting IIFA Rocks, a musical and fashion event on the night before the awards ceremony, along with the Vicky Donor star.

"This is the first time I am going to be anchoring a show. I have just met Ayushmann so we are still working on the chemistry. He has hosted many shows so he is going to take care of the slip-ups," said Singh.

VJ-turned actor Khurana, known by his first name, said: "This is going to be my first time at IIFA. I have hosted many shows before but IIFA is the biggest of all. I'm going to keep it spontaneous. I might also sing."

IIFA Rocks this year will include performances by Mika Singh and composer duo Vishal-Shekhar. Singers Usha Uthup, Hariharan and composer Leslie Lewis are going to perform to celebrate Indian Cinema completing 100 years.

Sonu Sood starrer cop drama Maximum will also be premiered at the IIFA Rocks. The film, directed by Kabeer Kaushik, also stars Neha Dhupia and Naseeruddin Shah. It is based on the police encounters in Mumbai.

"Last year I got an award for Dabangg at IIFA and this year my film is being screened there. I have always wanted a big platform for Maximum and I am grateful to IIFA for taking the film to a global audience," said Sood.

The event will also have fashion show with designers Varun Bahl, Suneet Verma and Masaba putting their collections on display.

Verma's collection titled The Eternal Lightness of Being, to Love, to Hold, to Kiss will be presented in association with Gitanjali Jewels, while Masaba has designed a special glamorous collection just for IIFA.

The IIFA weekend is being held at Singapore this time from June 7 to 9. Here are the nominees:
