Jason Hartman to support Kelly Clarkson

Staff reporter | 17 March, 2010 12:140 Comments

Filming is re-scheduled for joint idols winner Jason Hartman, as he supports the South African leg of Pop Superstar Kelly Clarkson’s "All I ever wanted" World Tour

Jason Hartman, who recently added another string (as motion picture actor) to his bow of many talents as an entertainer has to take time out of his busy filming schedule as one of the leads in “A Million Colours: e’Lollipop II” - which is just 3 weeks into filming.

The romantic epic is a South African/Canadian co-production with André Pieterse of Ma-Afrika Films (producer of the original e’Lollipop) and Michael Mosca from Equinoxe Films (distributors of My Big Fat Greek Wedding) who serve as the South African and Canadian producers respectively.

Canadian director, Peter Bishai, also wrote the screenplay.

Hartman plays the role of “Norman Knox” in the movie that is inspired by the true story of what happened to Muntu Ndebele, the young star of the (original) e’Lollipop - after the fame.

The story of an unbreakable bond of friendship between a young black boy ‘Tsepo’ and young white boy ‘Norman” – e’Lollipop is remembered as one of South Africa’s most beloved classic movies.

“We knew very early in the production about Jason’s opportunity to perform with Kelly Clarkson and we were quite willing to accommodate him in our scheduling. He is an amazingly diversely talented young man and deserves every break that comes his way.” says producer, Andre Pieterse, who, according to Hartman, unabatedly pursued him to cast him as the character of Norman.

“He said I had a wild look in my eye, and he believed I was the one to pull off the character of Norman,” recalls Hartmann.

Peter Bishai, says he was initially cautious when he learnt that Jason was an “Idol”. “But, during his audition I was blown away by the naturalness of his performance in the audition. He wasn’t self-conscious which is the number one mark of a true actor. He has a pure instinct.”

Hartman says although he wasn’t born at the time e’Lollipop was made, he was attracted to the role in “A Million Colours: e’Lollipop II”.

“It is the role of a lifetime and I immediately resonated with the character. The character I am playing is extremely angry; his dream that started out to be an actor was shut down. I know the feeling – something similar happened by my family. This film has been a healing experience for me. “

Charles Fries is Executive Producer. Philo Pieterse (Executive Producer on e'Lollipop) serves as Associate producer, along with Muntu Ndebele, whose life story inspired “A Million Colours”. Production Services are provided by Philo Films, with Johan Kruger as Line Producer.

Hartman will return to set directly after the final concert - in Cape Town.
