Download free 'Otelo Burning' mixtape
Tumi Molekane has produced a mixtape to accompany upcoming local film 'Otelo Burning', which will be available as a free download from April.
The mixtape features tracks from artists such as Zaki Ibrahim, Reason, The Fridge and Samthing Soweto, as well as Molekane(known for his work with the Volume) himself.
About the mixtape, Molekane says in a statement: "It's a mixed, non-linear audio narrative of the ideas that live in the movie. Dialogue from the movie is weaved throughout the soundtrack into one continuous musical flow.
"It works brilliantly for a soundtrack of this nature because it's a super cool compilation of songs that also does the job of translating a skilfully woven story into something that we can consume as listeners."
Otelo Burning is set in 1988 KwaZulu-Natal, where Otelo Buthelezi and his friends take up surfing, against the backdrop of political conflict in Lamontville.
The film stars Jafta Mamabolo (Jerusalema), Thomas Gumede (A Place Called Home) and Sihle Xaba (Bay of Plenty).

Says Otelo Burning director Sara Blecher: "The idea of young black kids surfing in the mid-80s is striking, unique and so local. The mixtape comprises music from the film that captures the spirit of the time, while the new, more modern tracks give the story a great contemporary edge."
Otelo Burning will hit local cinemas on 11 May.
