If you have ever wondered why you need to know how to add and subtract, here is an intriguing police drama that uses a little more than just the basics - applied mathematics, in fact - to solve crimes.

Brothers Don Epps, who works for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Charlie, a mathematics genius whom Don recruits to help him solve complex and challenging criminal cases, are the heroes in Numbers.

What sets this crime show apart from the usual skop, skiet en donner dramas is not the baffling crimes they have to deal with, it is the relationships and the drama surrounding each of the characters that is most intriguing. The drama penetrates deeply into the personal lives of the brothers and into those with whom they mingle.

Despite their different techniques, the siblings manage to combine their areas of expertise to solve some serious cases. Tonight the team locates a suspect behind the death of a scientist. Meanwhile, Charlie considers an attractive job offer.

  • 'Numbers' is on DStv's Universal Channel tonight at 9.40pm
