Date and apple cake slices

METHOD:

Preheat the oven to 200C. Grease a brownie tin.

In a large bowl, mix the flours, sugar and oats. Rub in the butter or margarine. Press half the mixture into the brownie tin.

In another bowl, mix the dates, apples and the spice.

Spread this evenly over the pressed oats mixture, allowing a gap of about 1cm at the edges. On top of this add the remaining oats mixture. Press down firmly and then bake for 25 minutes.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool before cutting into slices.

MAKES: 16 slices

TIME: 35 minutes

Ingredients:

125g self-raising flour

125g wholewheat flour

100g sugar

250g oats

250g butter or margarine

80g dates, chopped

1 x 400g tin pie apples

15ml mixed spice
