Racism story reflects our 'blame game' tendencies

Dave Harris, Craighall Park: Of all the articles I have read in The Times, I have never enjoyed one as much as Monday's "Racism drags us down" by Lesiba Teffo.

The way it pinpointed our constant need to look back and blame apartheid and racism for all our woes is exactly why we are not moving forward in South Africa!

I was expecting a flood of letters agreeing or at least responding, but instead I found two SMS comments and your opinion page dominated by Patrick Rampai that SAPS Captain Renate Barnard will be promoted because a white judge is presiding over her case!

I think this appropriately proves Teffo's point.

Why is it a race issue and not a case for the best person for the job?

If we truly want to move forward and achieve the best for our country, shouldn't we be able to see all South Africans of all races as equal?

In a true democracy, after more than 16 years of freedom, when will we be just South Africans?
