On poetic license

Poets tales will often stray/ As they hyper analyze as they hyperbolize/ Simplify and seek to symbolize/ But lose accuracy along the way/ But these false words often tell us/ More than truth can say/ About the mind behind the lie/ Secrets that lies betray
About Athens fighting force
Against Persians without remorse
Poets, bakers and merchant sons
He claims a sacrifice of Spartans
Forgetting the thousand who stood
Against orders to flee or die
There by Thermopylae
Poets tales will often stray
As they hyper analyze as they hyperbolize
Simplify and seek to symbolize
And lose accuracy along the way
But these false words often tell us
More than truth can say
About the mind behind the lie
Secrets that lies betray
The common sacrifice is ignored
They weren’t nobility so he is bored
Poets, bakers and merchant sons
Weren’t heroes like his Spartans
Helots who against Persia bled
With their orders to fight or die
There by Thermopylae
Poets tales will often stray
As they hyper analyze as they hyperbolize
Simplify and seek to symbolize
And lose accuracy along the way
But these false words often tell us
More than truth can say
About the mind behind the lie
Secrets that lies betray
A tale of warriors of legend
Is the story he wishes to send
Poets, bakers and merchant sons
Weren’t legends like the Spartans
Their tale must fall and die
There by Thermopylae
