Drug lords, not mules, must be put behind bars: iLIVE
I think these women are largely pawns ("Young and needing money - the drug lords' ideal prey", December 14).
The people the government should be focusing on catching and sending to prison are the drug lords who prey on these women.
Every time a woman is sent to prison or executed, they are immediately replaced and the drug lord walks free.
A friend was threatened with her life and the life of her child if she did not fly to India and bring a parcel back.
She never made it back to South Africa. She was caught in Kenya and sentenced to life imprisonment.
She is 22 and has a young child.
If the government was truly interested in stopping this, they could have spoken to her and found out the details about who was behind this and potentially crushed a huge drug ring, but it chose to do nothing.
Why?
Because the government benefits financially from these transactions.
Fellow South Africans, why are we not outraged that there are drug lords and drug rings operating in our country and they are never brought to justice?
The corruption involves government officials and civil servants.
The true evil and crime lies far beyond these women.
