BY 1912, when the ANC was founded, South Africa as a whole was already dominated economically and politically by a tiny minority of capitalist tyrants.

The so-called Native agreement, passport and compound systems were used to place native workers under the heavy yoke of supplying cheap labour, and confining natives to a lower social plane than white workers in particular and Europeans in general. It took the ANC 83 years to patiently work on changing the situation around without sowing hatred and divisions between black and white, without driving anybody into the sea or turning one race into slaves for another.

Today South Africa is a dream country, tourist destination and home to many nationals from around the globe. The rainbow nation remains our collective dream. The ANC led this country for 17 years into a democratic dispensation. The path has not always been smooth and perfect but the country is still a beacon of hope, alive with possibilities. Well done, ANC, for a splendid performance. The job is not yet done though. Happy centennial!!!
