DA poster got SA talking: iLIVE

Ruhan Robinson, Boksburg | 27 January, 2012 00:18

I found Lukhona Mnguni's letter on the DA Student Organisation poster very interesting ("DA youth poster reckless", yesterday).

His remark that "truth is, sex between black and white people leads to the production of coloured people" in particular shows a very narrow-minded view of how coloured people in South Africa fit into society.

Coloured people in South Africa aren't merely the love-children of blacks and whites. They are a distinct group of South Africans.

I'm not sure how this fits into debate about the poster .

I also denounce to the extreme the accusation that the DA "preys on coloured people as voting fodder". Should a political party then be apologetic about any demographic it attracts? Should the FF+ apologise for attracting white Afrikaans votes? One can similarly say the ANC "preys on black people as voting fodder".

He says it is a campaign to bring about "sexual empowerment in our lifetime". Any campaign that promotes equality should be respected as an effort towards progress, no matter whose campaign it is.

Love it, hate it, at least the poster got South Africa talking.
