Protesters didn't use common sense: iLIVE

D Wolpert, Rivonia | 02 February, 2012 00:42

Regarding the article "Why being a Capetonian sickens and distresses me" (January 31), which criticises the actions of police preventing protesters from occupying Rondebosch Common - for once I find myself on the side of the law enforcers.

The democratic right to peaceful protest is beyond dispute, but I find the current vogue of "occupying" and trashing public and private property indefensible.

By all means conduct a peaceful march to air grievances, but those who wish to use such property for sleep-outs and barbecues should rather do so at camping or picnic sites.
