I am speechless at the indifference and silence of the media , civil society, the ANC, SACP and Cosatu over the slaughter carried out by the genocidal Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria.

When Israel retaliates against rocket fire by Hamas, and Palestinians making up a fraction of the number being killed in Syria die, South African newspapers scream front-page headlines and radio stations pump with rage. Cosatu, the Treatment Action Campaign and Muslim organisations embark on mass marches and the government recalls its ambassador to Israel.

In Syria, a regime is mass murdering women and children, but it has received no condemnation from the ANC/SACP government.

Why are there no marches on the Syrian embassy by Cosatu and NGOs, no activity at universities?

If one Hamas terrorist is killed, South Africa catches aflame. If thousands of Syrians are killed by the Assad regime there is little mention of it, no demonstrations, no declarations or petitions.

The same applies to the butchering of people by governments in Rwanda, Tibet, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Iran.

I suppose the entities mentioned will find their voices to protest if Western democracies step in to stop the slaughter in Syria. Then we'll hear their outrage about "Western imperialism". Is there no end to the hypocrisy of the leftist establishment that dominates discourse in South Africa?
