Cosatu must take responsibility: iLIVE
I receive with great concern news about Cosatu's plans for a major strike ("Vavi: Get real, ANC", January 8).
Reasons for the strike? "To demand a total ban of labour brokers."
Cosatu wants to risk killing people by closing all clinics and hospitals, contribute to the suffering economy by closing all shops, and interrupt teaching and learning by closing all schools.
I have a few questions for Vavi:
Will Cosatu account for deaths that might occur on the day of the strike since they will close hospitals and clinics?
Will Cosatu account for lessons missed by pupils on the day of the march?
Is the issue of labour brokers that serious that it is worth losing lives?
I am anxious to hear what the Young Communist League and Sasco will say about this, knowing that they harshly criticised the ANC Youth League. They said innovative ways need to be employed in addressing issues as opposed to resorting to the streets.
Principles should not only prevail when it is your enemy you're counteracting. They should also prevail when it's your friend who is blundering. What's the use of only being vocal when it suits you?
