The redistribution of land in South Africa is a sensitive and emotional topic. The whole issue has been simmering below the surface and frustrations at the slow rate of transformation are starting to arise.

The government does not seem to have a clear plan as to how distribution of land is going to take place. Zimbabwe has done us a huge favour by demonstrating what happens to a country when distribution takes place without any planning or foresight. The stakes of a failed land redistribution policy are too high to contemplate.

I would have thought that someone of Dr Pieter Mulder's social standing and scholastic achievements would have had more sense than to address parliament with a factually shaky and biased view of land ownership.

To include "Voortrekker diaries" as a way of adding credibility to his argument is unconvincing and insensitive.

You will never create a win-win situation for all involved in the transformation of land ownership, but I hope that all decisions made will have the best interests of the country at heart and not be made to make the numbers look good.
