Zuma stance hypocritical: iLIVE
President Jacob Zuma's tirade about the need to review Constitutional Court judgments smacks of hypocrisy.
His strongest argument about Constitutional Court judgments is that judges often come up with different opinions on the same case.
He argues that sometimes the overruled judges hold a more logical judgment.
The majority decision system is practised all over the world in democracies to arrive at critical decisions about various issues, some not even of a judicial nature.
The jury system has been excellently practised by the US for decades.
Zuma has regularly been a beneficiary of majority decisions.
In Polokwane in 2007, more than 40% of the delegates voted against Zuma taking the ANC presidency.
In spite of those who did not want him to be president, Zuma accepted the majority's will with a grin.
In parliament, Zuma is the head of a party that uses its majority to pass policies.
The president must holistically reject the universally practis ed majority-wins law - and not isolate the Constitutional Court - if he wishes to be taken seriously.
