Wrong title, but a great local movie: iLIVE
Well done to the producer and all those involved in the production of a great local movie, Material. What a pity this great movie was given the wrong title. It had little to do with material. The main theme was about holding old grudges and forgiveness.
Though the movie revolves around the maladies of an Indian family in Fordsburg, the main theme about the importance of forgiving is universal to all nationalities, hence its universal appeal.
The movie had a good storyline and cast, with some heart-wrenching moments peppered with the right dose of humour to digest some rather sad moments affecting the lives of the innocent, young children of this household headed by a very old-fashioned, pig-headed, cantankerous dad.
Grudges among families is so common that the hate and venom goes on for many years, eating away into the lives of the innocent children like an unstoppable cancer for generations.
Often it is foolish pride which interferes with common sense and forces people to hold grudges over petty issues.
The ideal title for this movie would have been Forgiveness so I would urge movie lovers not to miss this local gem because of its deceptive title.
The universal appeal of this movie is certain to make it a winner overseas and even put it in line for a few awards in the foreign film category.
If you want to see a feel-good movie, this is the one.
