PSL sides not up to it: iLIVE

Kiekie Mboweni, Nkowankowa | 08 March, 2012 01:06

The failure by Orlando Pirates to progress beyond the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League is a bad indictment on our football.

With all due respect to the other leagues in the continent, we always have the belief that we have the best league in Africa. But the way our best teams compete with other teams suggests that we have the best-resourced league , but are not necessarily playing the better football.

The way Pirates approached the competition did not match the drive and hunger they showcased locally. Their approach suggests we continue to show a lack of interest in conquering continental football.

The reality is that, if teams are not doing well in continental competitions, we cannot expect Bafana Bafana to do any better. We need teams to compete there for our national team to succeed. When last did Bafana win a game outside South Africa?

It's in the interest of local football to always have our teams always fighting it out at the highest level. Good luck to Black Leopards - it's important they do well in this competition.
