Dick and Jane: POEM
There is nothing more decadent Than how we portray innocent Fifty’s ideals, white picket offence White skinned white washed fence Marriage with father writ large The family under his charge
He’s the doctor, she plays nurse
Replicating misogyny’s curse
Sheeplike youth prepare to be led
Through sun worn doors of red
A house of values well forgotten
With foundations past rotten
Portraying an ideal sterilised
And in a distant past paralysed
Stillborn birth of aborted thought
A children’s primer to be taught
Lessons in reality that don’t stick
Innocent isn’t Jane or Dick
