Telling it like it is on gender equality: iLIVE

Phumla Matjila will no doubt get a lot of flack from some more conservative quarters about the views she expressed in her column "Nothing golden about silence" (yesterday), but she must be applauded for her brave words.

It is a terrible fact that the battle for true gender equality will never be won until women themselves stop being complicit in their own oppression.

Sadly, the majority of men in South Africa and the world see no merit in fighting for an end to sexism. Why should they when they believe it benefits them? Women's complicity simply strengthens their case.
