Don't be so harsh on SA universities: iLIVE

Peter Smulik, Cape Town | 10 May, 2012 00:47

The primary reason US universities feature so strongly, and why many are ranked top in the world, is that they have plenty of dosh, as you call it, to nurture the young minds and facilitate the necessary research that leads to new products ("Youth vital in the big picture", yesterday).

But don't be so harsh on our universities. Cape Town is ranked 156th on the QS scale. Considering that Vienna (where I come from, and that university is pretty good) is just one ahead, Cape Town can be proud.

Many other reputable universities are ranked lower. None of our others makes it within the top 300, though I believe some faculties at Stellenbosch are very highly ranked on other scales.
