Lotto setup needs to be investigated: iLIVE

V Oertel, Observatory | 10 May, 2012 00:47

When the National Lottery was first mentioned years ago, the biggest motivation was that NGOs and charities would be the main beneficiaries of funds ("Charities suffocating", yesterday).

Perhaps it is time for the Public Protector to investigate the entire setup.

It obviously costs money to administer the Lotto, but there's no reason for anyone to become excessively rich, and there is no reason the main prize payout should run into more than R1-million.

In our crime-ridden country, I guess there are also bogus charities which should be rooted out, and the perpetrators should be severely punished.
