Why focus on Afrikaners? iLIVE

Ngeni Wotshela, Edenvale | 11 May, 2012 00:57

We are confronted daily by news of black people crossing crocodile-infested rivers to collect social grants, drinking contaminated water and living in the most inhumane conditions.

Despite this, we also read stories like "Ruling party holds frank talks with Afrikaners".

ANC spokesman Jackson Mthembu is quoted as having highlighted Afrikaners' rights as the following: education and training, land reform, economic empowerment, linguistic and cultural.

Black children are without textbooks at schools in Limpopo and the Eastern Cape. In townships all over South Africa people of colour are living in dire poverty, exposed to the most violent and harrowing crimes, yet the ANC has the time to meet with Afrikaners .

Less than 5% of this group's population is faced with unemployment and poverty.

This group is demanding cultural and linguistic rights, yet its language is taught in schools and universities across the country.

Is this really freedom for our people?
