Parking failures: iLIVE

J Findlay, Parklands | 14 May, 2012 00:21

It is wrong for the City of Johannesburg to target the northern suburbs for the introduction and expansion of the paid parking scheme ("Parking fees drain city businesses", May 10) .

These are not the most chaotic traffic areas in the city. It would make sense to start paid parking in places such as Hillbrow and the area bound by the Bree, Von Wielligh, Commissioner and Mooi streets in the CBD. The Joubert Park area would also be a good place for the system to be implemented. This is where traffic chaos rules and the police appear to be too terrified to do anything about it.

This is probably based on poor prioritisation and a lack of management skills.

It is seen as a fund-raising initiative rather than a bid to solve traffic problems.
