Honour Magoo's bombing victims
June 21 marks the 26th anniversary of the Magoo's Bar bombing in Durban by ANC operative Robert McBride. Angelique Pattenden, Julie van der Linde and Marchelle Gerard died when the bomb exploded, and 69 others sustained serious injuries.
McBride received three life sentences for the murders at the time, but was later [pardoned]. In the Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings, he was unrepentant, saying he would do it again if faced with the same circumstances.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a Pattenden Boulevard, Van der Linde Road and Gerard Avenue to honour these innocent people cut down in their prime?
