Coach must believe: iLIVE
Iti is interesting to note that Gordon Igesund and Shakes Mashaba were the leading candidates for the Bafana coaching position, according to one of the panellists ("Who's the man", June 15).
Former Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane had pointed out, on a number of occasions, that the quality of our goal poachers in this country leaves a lot to be desired. While this may be true, a "good coach" should use what he has at his disposal to get the best possible results. The top two contenders, Mashaba and Igesund are, for me, those types of coach and Steve Khompela, to a certain degree, falls into this category as well.
It should be noted that the Zambian national team won Afcon earlier this year with players who ply their trade in the local PSL.
Those players, in my opinion, are no better than the ones we have in this country. The difference was that they had a coach who believed in them, and the players had confidence in him as well.
We need a coach who will make us believe and fill our hearts with pride.
