Spotlight on Turkey's role: iLIVE

Twice in two years, a rather placid Turkey has been caught in diplomatic standoffs with once-friendly states ("Beware of Turkish wrath", yesterday).

The flotilla incident with Israel and the downing of an airliner by Syrian forces have tested the Turks' role as global players.

With a strong economy, Turkey will now have to "share space" with a new democracy, Egypt, which, under the Brotherhood's Mohamed Morsi, is bound to shift the balance of power in the Middle East and Asia.
