Our defenders or our defeaters? iLIVE
A few years ago the Treatment Action Campaign had to force the government to provide antiretrovirals to Aids patients.
Now, the Department of Education is being dragged to court by Section 27 over the non-delivery of textbooks ("Angie doesn't listen", July 10).
Something is missing here.
The public. Why are we silent while people fight these important battles on our behalf?
What if fascists decided to fight the government on "our" behalf under the guise of fighting corruption? Like the TAC and Section 27, they might be victorious.
That's when the real trouble will begin. They will take control of our lives, impose tough laws and punish those who disagree with them. This is the price we are going to pay for being spectators, as opposed to taking charge of our destiny.
