Western Cape Premier Helen Zille is opportunistic and out of order ("And Zille's choice is ." , July 23 ).

Who cares who is her preferred candidate for appointment to the Constitutional Court?

In Western democracies, the ruling party or president appoint judges who share their political ideology and philosophies.

But in South Africa, President Jacob Zuma and the ANC seem not to be allowed to do that.

Barack Obama recently appointed a liberal Hispanic judge to the US Supreme Court against opposition from the Republicans.

Zuma must appoint the right person, and not base the decision on what Zille says.
