A state of loss: iLIVE

New Town, near Pilgrim's Rest, the scene of violent protests sparked by claims that local mining companies were not helping to develop the area Picture: ALON SKUY

The government seems to have lost quite a few legal battles of late, the most notable being the Pilgrim's Rest case.

If officials had to cough up every time they went to court, they would quickly lose their appetite for litigation .

One has to question the quality of the government's in-house legal advisers.

Even a layman could see they were going to get a hiding in this case. Add to this the suspension challenges, police claims, contractor non-payments and the textbooks fiasco.
