A letter to Liz, at 16: iLIVE
At 16, you are full of life, laughter and curiosity. On the verge of adulthood, you are confident of a beautiful life to come. You love books but are not isolated by them. You have a great bunch of friends too.
I could have told you then that, along the wonderful journey that is life, you will call two different countries home. But I will also tell you that life is not as rosy as you imagine. Along the road, your heart will be badly broken.
You will lose your five beautiful sisters to a killer virus. You will lose your beloved ma and pa to another monster, cancer. You will also lose your beautiful husband to cancer.
Dealing with cancer will be particularly hard on you because your job as a radiation therapist involves treating people with the disease.
I will also assure you that. despite the heartbreak, you will remain optimistic. You will still welcome each day with a smile, grateful to God for your children, family, friends and life.
